Quattroceutical Ltd. recently conducted a comprehensive online survey involving 1021 participants, revealing interesting perspectives on vitamin and mineral intake. A striking 39% of respondents believe that the form of vitamins and minerals consumed matters less than regularity in intake. However, the effectiveness of different forms varies considerably.
The choice of vitamin form significantly impacts absorption. For instance, liquid drops containing only the active ingredient require no additional artificial substances like anti-caking agents or fillers, reducing strain on the body. In contrast, experiments have shown that tablets might not disintegrate in the body at the right pace, resulting in insufficient utilization of the active ingredient.
Liquid drops dissolved directly in water are better absorbed and represent the preferred delivery method for water-soluble vitamins and active ingredients due to their effectiveness.
Interestingly, half of the respondents prefer supplements that can be taken once daily, while 29% emphasize the importance of understanding a product’s ingredients to avoid potential harm. This highlights the significance of adhering to recommended dosages and timing for optimal absorption and utilization.
Research underscores the importance of timing in supplement intake, as different vitamins and minerals are absorbed optimally at specific times. For instance, water-soluble vitamins, like vitamin C, shouldn’t be taken with caffeine as it inhibits absorption. Vitamin C is best avoided in the evening due to its stimulating and diuretic effects. Conversely, fat-soluble vitamin D is more effectively absorbed when taken at midday, preferably with lunch.
For example, Stilla drops, like C+D+Zn, are recommended to be taken during lunch to maximize the benefits of their active ingredients. Iron is best taken in the morning on an empty stomach but should not be consumed with tea, coffee, or fizzy drinks, which hinder its absorption. Magnesium, on the other hand, isn’t time-restricted and is optimally absorbed with plain water. Importantly, if taking both magnesium and iron, they should not be taken simultaneously to ensure proper absorption.
In essence, understanding the form of supplements and their optimal intake times is crucial to maximize the benefits of vitamins and minerals while ensuring their efficient absorption and utilization within the body.
